Scholes' comeback

Refereeing decisions
Everyone will be pointing at the sending of Vincent Kompany as the turning point of the Manchester Derby, but it was fully deserved sending off. If he caught Nani, as he intended, then he would have certainly done damage to him, as he was overly forceful with a two-footed lunge. It wouldn't be surprising if Chris Foy rescinds the red card, which will do nothing but create a further controversial divide between the two fans. Now, the referee awarded United a penalty in the first half, and there was no debating it because Kolarov wiped out Danny Welbeck without getting the ball, but there should have been another penalty in the second, which Foy never gave. Valencia, against the same City defender, tore inside the right-hand side of the box and had his feet taken out but neither the referee or his linesman decided to give it, which gave City the confidence to get a second straight after.
Questionable Substitutions
Sir Alex made two substitutions, which completely changed the shape of the team, and killed the effectiveness of the United counterattack. Nani was withdrawn in favor of Scholes, which shifted Ryan Giggs to the left wing, and his lack of pace killed the threat of the counters that shredded City in the first half. Not only did it do that, but Scholes came on to sit in front of the back-four, which Carrick did ever so well in the first half. The second substitute was Anderson coming on for Welbeck, who was outstanding harassing the City defenders, as he challenged for every single ball. Yes, keep the possession
Negative play
Even before those changes, United seemed very content sitting on three-goal lead, which gave City far too much confidence to get something from the game. After the Reds get a lead, they sit back in a defensive shell and allow the other team to attack them - which isn't a good thing considering how vulnerable the back-four is. The point was to have City attack them and catch them on a counter, which all three of the goals came from, but the manager didn't anticipate that City would out play them with 10 men.
