Gary Will Always Be A Red |
Neville has always warmed the hearts of the supporters with his very animated celebrations against any of United's fiercest of rivals, but he will be forever-remembered for his never-ending respect that he always put forth during every single one of his 602 club appearances.
Due to his fitness levels and being unable cope with the speed of today's game, Neville has been limited to making only three appearances this season - two of them saw him replaced before the end of the match - so the announcement should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Over the past four seasons, Gary has struggled shake off nagging injuries like he used to, so he was always going to be up against to prolong his United career another season, and it raised some eyebrows when Sir Alex Ferguson offered him a new one-year contract last June.

Then when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decided to end his time as Reserve team manager and accept Molde's first-team managerial responsibilities it just heightened the speculation that Neville was going to be retiring from football in the not-so distant future.
Flattery
If you were to ask an opposing fan, they would tell you that Gary was one of the worst professionals, which is the ultimate compliments a footballer could be paid.
Like United, Neville was always one of the most hated figures in English football, which was simply down to the fact that he embodied everything that the club has ever stood for.
Even during his 85 caps with the England national team, the bitterness for Neville still carried over, which illustrated just how jealous they were of his club success.
Passion
Neville was a die-hard United supporter from his youth, so whenever United scored a vital victory he could never help himself from celebrating with his fellow Reds.
The United legendary right-back was never one to shy away from controversial situations, and his true colors showed through with well-documented celebrations in front of the Liverpool and Manchester City supporters at Theatre of Dreams.
Last season, Neville did what every United supporter wanted to do by giving Carlos Tevez a piece of his mind after he raced away to celebrate his goal for City, which saw him fall out of favor with Sir Alex.
Accomplished
However, that has not stopped the Gaffer from claiming on multiple occasions that if Neville was an inch or two taller he would have been the best center back in England, but he did alright for himself on the right side of United's defense.
For a full-back that loved to bombard forward assisting the attack, Gary had one of the worst goals-to-game ratio - 0.01 (seven goals in 602 appearances) - with his last goal coming against Lyon in the UEFA Champions League.
It was very fitting that Neville's last assist came in United's crushing 4-0 win over AC Milan last season, because his best mate, David Beckham, who he partnered for so many years in the Reds' attack, was on hand representing the visitors.
It is always sad to see a player of Gary Neville's stature call it a career, because of how he was such a loyal ambassador for Manchester United over the last 20 years, but he should have a very successful managerial career.
