In six days, Manchester United will be touching down in North America in preparation for their Tour 2010, and my fellow Americans and I are more than ready for Sir Alex Ferguson and our other heroes!
It has been six years since United traveled to this side of the Atlantic, so it is a visit that is long overdue, and if the players think that they got a warm reception then - wait until they come this time!
Fans, like myself, will be following United for the duration of their three-match tour of the United States (including their open practice in Chicago), so I will be travelling nearly 6,000 miles - or 9,656 KM - to make sure I do not miss a second with my beloved United heroes during the tour.
Being the Red Views Editor for One United USA, the official Manchester United membership and supporters club in the United States, I will be helping man the booths that we have in Philadelphia, Kansas City and Houston to help grow awareness of the world's most popular club.
At our booth, we will be working closely with the local Major League Soccer club to help promote the sport here and establish life-long bonds between those fans and the clubs.
Soccer is slowing becoming more and more popular, and with the 2010 FIFA World Cup about to wrap up, the American soccer fans will need something else to keep their interest going - and Manchester United football is just the tonic for them!
Unfortunately, most of my friends do not appreciate soccer, and think that is the beautiful game, but with United coming to the United States, it will add credibility to when I say to them, "There is soccer, there is football, but there is Manchester United football!"
Sir Alex manages and has his players play the sport the way it is suppose to be played - a wide-open, but controlled attack while being organized and disciplined in defending.
The influence of having a prestigious club like United come to the United States can only help establish soccer to be one of the major sports in this country.
Hopefully when the higher-ups at Manchester United see the full support by the Americans fans, it will force David Gill to have this become an annual trip!
