Wayne's Treble

Wayne Rooney swept up all of the personal accolades at Manchester United's annual awards - picking up the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, the Players' Player of the Year and the Goal of the Year.

It came as no surprise that Rooney was honored with the player of the year award as he claimed 83% of the votes submitted by the United fans from all around the world.

Rooney is the only English-born player to have won this award twice with only three other English players have won this award before - Gary Pallister, David Beckham and Teddy Sheringham.

Rooney joins Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, Brian McClair, Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy as the only multiple winners in the awards 23-year history.

Rooney previously won the award following the 2005/06 season - just his second year with the club, and with the forward committed to United for the long-term he should surpass Ronaldo's treble.

Dependable
Despite spending the best part of the last month on the sidelines with a couple of injuries, Rooney has had his best statistical season with United notching a career-high 34 goals.

Rooney's timing was impeccable because Sir Alex Ferguson needed someone to fill the void that was left in the United attack as he lost 50% of his attacking options in the summer.

Prior to this season and because of his adaptability, Ferguson was unable to find a role for Rooney to really suit his attributes, but this season the 4-5-1 formation has seen the former Everton man grabbing all the goals and the headlines.

Since joining United in August of 2004, Rooney has gone on to make 281 appearances and has scored 131 goals - which ranks him tied for 13th place on the all-time list with Tommy Taylor.

Future
Ritchie De Laet, who made a shock transfer from Stoke City to United in January 2009, has been named as the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year.

The young Belgium left-back has made five senior appearances this season - two in the Barclays Premier League and three in the Carling Cup, but he has had a big say in the success of the Reserve Team.

He faces a tough test trying to break into the United first-team with Patrice Evra having the left-back position on lock down, and he also has to compete with Fabio to try to uproot the Frenchman, who has made the most appearances for the club this season (47).

De Laet edged out Magnus Eikrem and Oliver Gill for this year's award.

Another
Will Keane, who is no relation to Roy, has been named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year recipient for the 2009/10 season ahead of Nicky Ajose and Scott Wootton.

Keane seems to be growing in stature with every match he plays, and hours prior to the match, he scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Everton, however, first-team success is not a guarantee for players that win this award.

Only a few players have gone on to enjoy life under Sir Alex - with only - Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes Phil Neville and Wes Brown - making more than a 100 appearances for the first-team.

Giuseppe Rossi has been the only player to have won both the reserve and youth team award , but the young American-born Italian will probably never have the chance to win the main gong, but Sir Alex does have first right if he decides to leave Villarreal.

Congratulations to Wayne Rooney, Ritchie De Laet and William Keane on their achievements, but all three of them would cash in these awards if it meant Manchester United winning their fourth consecutive Barclays Premier League title this Sunday.
