The Silly Season

Another Manchester United superstar has been linked with a move to Spain, but this time the answer will be flat out no, as Sir Alex Ferguson has branded this time of year as the "silly season."

Wayne Rooney has become the latest in the lost list of United players linked with a big money move to Real Madrid, and it would have to significantly more than the £80million that the Spanish giants splashed out for Cristiano Ronaldo last summer.

The difference between Rooney and Ronaldo is that the Portuguese winger has been in love with the Galácticos since he was young boy.

Despite spending just under a cool £200million pounds on four players - Ronaldo, Kaká, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso - last summer, Madrid will be back spending ungodly amounts of money this summer as well, but Rooney is one player that will have to go off their radar, because he is not for sale.

Priceless
Its quite laughable - and expected - that they would attempt to unsettle the soon-to-be PFA Player of the Year, because of the way he has shouldered the brunt of goal scoring responsibility after United lost 35% of their goal scorers last summer.

Rooney has been admirably filled in for Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez by chipping in an impressive 34 goals in 42 appearances this season.

United have already scored 10 more goals this season than they did all of last season with three matches to play.

He would have surely added more goals to that already-impressive tally, but injuries in the last month of the season have limited his appearances for United.

Rooney has missed four of United's last nine matches, which does not include him being forced off against Bayern Munich in the return leg at Old Trafford after reaggravating his ankle injury.

Its hard to imagine what Rooney's valuation would be at, because the transfer market has become so inflated with the recent influx of money at Manchester City and Madrid.

Money is definitely no object for City either, because they spent amazing £41million on two middle-of-the-road central defenders Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure, and they also spend £25million each on their front pair of Emanuel Adebayor and Tevez.

Sir Alex has already stated that he will not over pay for a player, and he proved that last summer as they lost out on securing the services of Benzema.

The French center forward would have been a nice addition to the squad and would have taken some of the pressure of Rooney to provide as many goals as he has, and it would not be out of the realm of possibility that Benzema could join this summer.

The former Lyon hitman could find his way to Manchester, because he has not enjoyed the best of times in the Spanish capital with only scoring

Wisely
Ferguson has not ruled out adding to his squad where he sees fit, so United fans should expect some a few more summer acquisitions.

The United boss has already signed an unproven center-back and a relatively unknown striker from Mexico to provide more competition for places next season.

Chris Smalling signed from Fulham as a long-term replacement to Rio Ferdinand in January, and then Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez joined from Club Deportivo Guadalajara a week ago, but Ferguson has said he will add more players.

The mystery will be if he will go for youth or an experienced player, because he will not over spend for talent - unless they benefit the team.

A few players will be likely given the green light to leave this summer, but a couple players that will not be leaving Old Trafford are Nani and Paul Scholes.

Both the Jheri curled winger and the Ginger Prince has signed contract extensions to remain a major part of Fergusons players in the 2010/11 season.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson took over in November 1986, Manchester United has never stood still, and more importantly, he is in the midst of developing another team that will continue to keep for the highest honors.
