Lose, Lose Situation

Manchester United has always been the club that the press measure the transfer window by, because they have not been afraid spend to get their target, but this past transfer window has been everything seen everything but just that.

While constantly being linked with high-profile players, Sir Alex Ferguson kept to his word and did not over spend for any players.

Everyone - supporters or reports - seem to think that United need to spent big to bring in players such as, Karim Benzema or Franck Ribery, because it seen as "normal" for United to do that, but if they gone ahead and landed one of those two they would have been called "big spenders" or "pompous with no care for the current economic times. Since United did not do that, they have been called "cheapskates" as reported in a few of the tabloids.

Lets face it, United are more than just a club, they are the topic of every football fan's mind. They sell papers for the tabloids, so when they don't spend or are not in the news it is a travesty.
One thing that is quite scary for title rivals is that United have flown under the radar, and have been written off by everyone - even some of their own supporters! When his back is against the wall, Sir Alex seems to get better, because he gets that little bit of extra incentive to get behind his team and drive them to glory.

Fact
There were some interesting facts reported that since the Glazers have taken over, only Arsenal in the "Big Four" (including Manchester City) have had a less net spending than United.

Since that day, United have a net spending of £6.25m (Arsene Wenger has turned in a £30m in profit during that time). In that same time period Chelsea has had a net spending of £97.5m, and Liverpool £88.4m and Manchester City has a net spending of over £232m.

With one of the deepest squads in the English Premier League, Manchester United will utilize all of them in their quest for a fourth consecutive title.
